What is it?
In the new format, you’ll be asked to read a short paragraph aloud in French, and then answer a few comprehension questions about it.
Top Tips to Do Your Best
1. Practise Pronunciation Regularly
- Read aloud every time you revise – even 2–3 minutes a day helps!
- Focus on silent letters and common sound patterns:
- Final consonants are often silent: grand → [gran]
- “-ent” at the end of verbs is silent: ils parlent → [parl]
- “in”, “on”, “an” sound different – train your ear!
2. Read Slowly and Clearly
- It’s not a race — slow down so your pronunciation is clear.
- If you get stuck on a word, pause, try again, and stay calm.
3. Break It Into Chunks
- Look for natural pauses (commas/full stops).
- Read one phrase at a time, not word by word.
❌ Il... y... a... un... parc...
✅ Il y a un parc agréable.
4. Understand What You’re Reading
- Before you read aloud, take 10 seconds to skim the paragraph and spot:
- Key nouns (places, people, objects)
- Verbs (what's happening?)
- Time phrases (e.g. hier, demain, souvent)
